Technical University of M. R. Štefánik in Košice
Slovak University of Technology (STU) was founded in Košice and authorised by the Act No. 170/1937 Coll. of the Czechoslovak National Council, on June 25, 1937 as the Technical University of M. R. Štefánik.
The University of M. R. Štefánik consisted of three sections:
- Construction and Transportation Engineering
- Hydraulic and Cultural Engineering
- Land Surveying Engineering
The First Rector was professor Jur Hronec.
The very first academic year was opened on the December 5, 1938 in Martin.
Slovak Technical University (SVŠT)
In July 1939 the Technical University of M. R. Štefánik has been renamed to the Slovak Technical University and it has been moved to its present seat - to Bratislava.

The Branches were renamed to Faculties (1950/51 - 1960)

The Faculty of Specialised Sciences ceased to exist and the Institute of Land Surveying was transferred and incorporated into the Faculty of Construction Engineering. In the academic year 1951/1952 the Faculty of Economic Engineering was established.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering (since 1960)
The Faculty of Construction Engineering (FIS) and The Faculty of Architecture and Costruction Engineering (FAPS) merged to create the new Faculty of Civil Engineering (SvF). The Faculty of Civil Engineering (SvF) retained that structure until 1976, when four departments providing instruction in architecture and urban planning left to create the new Faculty of Architecture (FA).
