Department of Hydraulic Engineering was established as an independent pedagogical - scientific workplace at the Faculty of Civil Engineering SVŠT in 1951 by renaming it II.Institute of Civil Engineering and Water Management, which at that time was headed by prof.S. Kratochvíl.During the entire duration, for more than 60 years, there was no change in the name of the department and no significant change in its scientific and pedagogical profile.
At present, this department provides teaching of theoretical subjects: hydraulics, groundwater hydraulics, fluid flow, as well as basic professional subjects: hydropower, weirs, waterways and navigation, as well as subjects of specialization such as: small hydropower plants, hydraulic structures, hydrotechnical research and others, designed according to the needs of practice.Department also offers the possibilty of postgraduate courses and doctoral studies.
