The Department of Hydraulic Engineering was established as an independent pedagogical - scientific workplace at the Faculty of Civil Engineering SVŠT in 1951 by renaming II. Institute of Civil Engineering and Water Management, which at that time was headed by prof. S. Kratochvíl. During the entire duration, ie for more than 60 years, there was no change in the name of the department and no significant change in its scientific and pedagogical profile.
Scientific research focuses on solving research tasks and professional problems for practice, especially on the problems of hydraulics of open troughs, flow in porous media, including interactions with surface water, the impact of hydraulic structures on the creation and protection of the environment, construction and operation of hydraulic structures and equipment.
