The Department of Languages participates in the preparation of students for the Student Scientific Conference. Within the language section, students with at least ten essays in English or German enter a competition by proving their abilities to deliver presentations on interesting topics in civil engineering and architecture in a foreign language.
Within the framework of its scientific activities, the staff of the Department of Languages participates in projects such as VEGA, ESF and other European projects, primarily, as recipients. The staff members take part in the VEGA projects as translators and proofreaders of technical texts intended for foreign miscellanies or international conferences held within the respective projects, e.g., within the VEGA project: Geotechnical Structures in Extraordinary Loading Stages. The Department has participated in the ESF projects with its own programme. Within the ESF project of the Continuing Education in Civil Engineering and Geodesy, the Department has drawn up its own teaching materials on CD and has used these materials in the teaching of the professional staff in the construction sector as part of the project. Another project was the ESF Project of the Improvement of ... of the Students of Secondary Schools and Their Preparation for a Study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava which resulted in the drawing up of partly interactive teaching materials on CD intended for the students of secondary schools and their teachers in preparation for the study of technical English. These materials are displayed on the website of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and they are available to the general public.
