The Department of Structural Mechanics lectures subjects covering the theoretical background for static and dynamic analyses of civil engineering structures including Statics, Structural Mechanics, Dynamics of Structures, Theories of Elasticity and Plasticity, Rheology, Non-Linear Mechanics and Numerical Methods in Structural Mechanics. The research activities of the Department are aimed at problems such as structure-sub-grade interaction, contact problems, optimal design of structures, material and geometric nonlinear analysis of structures, high-rise buildings loaded by wind and seismic effects, nuclear power plants safety and reliability, bio-mechanics. Laboratory provides facilities for the optical and tensometric analysis of deformations caused by static and dynamic load. The Department's staff cooperates at creation of codes for structures loaded by wind and seismic effects. Many expertises of principal constructions have been elaborated by the department. The Department is licensed user of ANSYS software, one of the worlds three biggest software systems focused on structural, thermal, fluid flow, acoustic and coupled-field linear and nonlinear analysis and design optimisation. |
