The Department of Physical Education at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology was established in 1952. The first Head of the Department was doc. J. Štancel. In 1962 it was split into two departments and attached to two faculties, one of them at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Presently, the Department of Physical Education at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology provides physical training instruction in a form of compulsory and compulsory elective physical training for the students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture in the following physical activities: swimming, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, water sports, aerobics, bodybuilding and hiking. In addition to these sports, the Department of Physical Education provides physical training in the summer and winter. In December 1994, “STAVÁR“, the Academic Sports Club, was established at the Department of Physical Education. It provides sports activities for the students of the Faculty which are not possible to organize due to the limited number of the Department’s staff. The wide range of the Club’s activities have broadened the possibilities for sports activities offered by the Faculty’s teaching staff. |
