On October 9th and 10th, 2024, the third meeting of the consortium members of the international project Low2High District Heating was held in Bratislava. The Slovak University of Technology is represented in the project by the Department of Technical Facilities of the Buildings from Faculty of Civil Engineering, which was also the host of this meeting of the project team.
The meeting was aimed at evaluating the steps implemented during the first year of the project and setting goals for the following period. Faculty of Civil Engineering STU was represented by Professor Dušan Petráš, Professor Michal Krajčík and Ing. Martina Mudrá from the Department of Technical Facilities of the Buildings.
As part of the program, consortium members completed a technical excursion at the company PPC Energy, a. s. The director of institutional relations, Martina Olejníková, informed the participants about the current state of centralized heat supply systems (CZT) in Slovakia. The director of the operation and maintenance department, Peter Viskupič, familiarized them with the operation of the steam-gas cycle and took them around the company premises. The technical excursion continued with a tour of the central boiler room D4-40 of Veolia Energia Slovensko, a. s., in Petržalka, which was led by the manager of the centralized heat supply, Michal Hrebík. He presented a system of cooperation between gas boilers, a cogeneration unit and a heat pump, which supply heat and hot water for the residents of the given Petržalka area.
The goal of the Low2High District Heating project is to provide support to 30 high-temperature CZT systems in Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania in the process of introducing low-potential renewable energy sources and waste heat technologies into these systems. The project promotes the benefits of renewable energy sources and provides an investment plan to meet the criteria for efficient CZT based on the Energy Efficiency Directive.
The project is cofinanced from European Union resources within the LIFE program and energy, financial and research institutions from Slovakia, Spain, Italy, Poland, Lithuania and Bulgaria participate in it.
