The award ceremony for the Student Personality of Slovakia competition for the academic year 2023/2024, announced by Junior Chamber International Slovakia, took place on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024. Among the awardees is Adam Tarana, a student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak University of Technology.
Student Personality of Slovakia is a national competition for talented male and female students of the first, second and third levels of university studies. Universities and institutes of the SAV nominated a total of 89 students and doctoral candidates for the competition. The expert jury selected 13 exceptional personalities from among them, who became winners in individual categories. Our student Adam Tarana won in the Construction, Architecture category.
Adam Tarana received the award for his design of a green roof application system above the social facilities of a construction site, including the assessment of aspects such as noise reduction from the construction site, effective capture and reuse of rainwater, cost savings, and the possibility of reusing the system on multiple projects. The designed system aims to obtain points within the BREEAM and LEED energy certificates. With this topic, he also achieved victory at the faculty Student Scientific Conference in the category of Construction Technology and also at the international Student Scientific Conference of Civil Engineering Faculties of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the category of Economics, Construction Management, and Construction Technology. He is currently working on predicting the amount of waste generated during construction with the ambition of creating a methodology for a more accurate estimate of the waste generated with a correlation to the load-bearing system and structural layers of the building.
In addition to his academic achievements, Adam Tarana's list of activities also includes serving as a student representative in the Academic Senate of SvF and the Accommodation Committee of the Slovak University of Technology. He was also active in the presidency of the Student Association of SvF, which was awarded the best faculty student organization for 2022 by the Student Council of Universities.
