The 10th annual presentation event for university students called BIM4FREE took place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology on March 10th, 2025. The series of lectures focused on the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in various areas of construction, along with practical demonstrations, was organized by the BIM Association Slovakia.
The lectures at our faculty were the first stop in a series of lectures at civil engineering faculties, which are organized annually by the BIM Association Slovakia. Students had the opportunity to learn about various aspects of using BIM - from design and static calculations to its application directly on the construction site, such as time planning, health and safety control, quality control, etc. The students' interest in the digitalization of the construction industry was great and the meeting brought interesting discussions and the development of knowledge.
The content of the introductory lecture were the key principles of BIM and the current state of BIM in Slovakia. The lecturers further explained the importance of BIM and especially its practical application. It was the practical demonstrations that made it possible to grasp the issue more clearly and make the presentations more accessible and interesting.
The aim of the event was to motivate students to use BIM, as they are the basic pillar of the digitalization of the construction industry. "We consider it important to introduce them to the topic of Building Information Modeling and show them that BIM is not the future, but the present," said Associate Professor Tomáš Funtík, from the Department of Construction Technology of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology, who is also the vice president of the BIM Association Slovakia.
Thanks go to all lecturers who delivered lectures with practical demonstrations: Tomáš Funtík, Faculty of Civil Engineering, STU, Radoslav Vlkovič, GFI, Michal Steinhubel, DALUX, Kamil Laco, ConIS, Lukáš Zelený, Siebert + Talaš, Dávid Sándor, PROMA, and Lukáš Bosák from the Department of Building Construction, Faculty of Civil Engineering, STU for their cooperation and assistance in the event preparation.
